AcoustaDamp™ is a constrained layer damping system. During the electro-coat process, AcoustaDamp™ expands to ensure complete contact between the metal part and the constrained layer. The resulting structure provides vibrational damping and improved stiffness. AcoustaDamp’s™ damping can be tuned to various temperatures and environments. It is sold as a sheet to be assembled or pre-assembled attached to a metal constrained layer.
A low frequency boom/resonance within an automotive body structure is very difficult to treat with conventional acoustic treatments. Adding damping and mass to the problem body panel will lower the amplitude of the response, but stiffness must be added to the panel to shift the frequency response. AcoustaDamp™ does an excellent job of adding damping and mass to a panel, but also adds stiffness. This “stiffening” effect shifts the frequency response up the audible frequency range where carpet systems, dashmats and absorber elements are more effective.
